HSS Turning Chisels Plain Skew

I have some 'basic' silverline tools - (parting tool, roughing gouge and a scraper). I had only to touch them on a piece of softwood and they would blunt. Not fit for purpose IMHO. That said, they were second hand and in such bad condition I pondered they had been used for deboning fossilised mammoth carcasses.

Not being in the position financially to buy the full set of my LUST full dreams, I was forced to purchase the ONLY tool in stocks at my local independent retailer which happened to be a skew chisel.

It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Learning to have that gentle tender caress of the wood with such a potentially catastrophic tool has taught me NOT to dive in there scraping the Bejeezus out of the blank before it had even got up to full rotational velocity. And now having added a few more good HSS tools to my kit it's amazing how much easier the job has become.

And the point of this saga is that all the way through this relentless punishment of the skew chisel, it has never needed re-sharpened once. I'm sure the others will perform just as well.. NOT BAD for tools that vary between only 20 and 30 pounds.

So give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

I have just bought two faithful chisels from Amazon only last week, a roughing gouge and a parting tool and I have to say they are excellent value for money compare to other expensive brands, they work really well and feel nice to handle, I have sharpened to parting tool straight away and its cuts through no problem and reckon it won't need sharpening for a long while.

The only little criticism I have is that I have just received a skew chisel today, again from Amazon and it bugs me how the wording faithful doesn't line up when they are bought separately. I have mine on a rack and I'm my workshop and it plays avouch with my OCD that the word faithful isn't in the same place on each handle. but this doesn't effect the tool at all its more of an OCD thing and thats my only reason for 4 stars and not 5, I would love to give 4.5

I haven't used the skew yet but if its anything like hey others it will be fine, in fact i have ordered another skew only tonight but in the other size.
